Two people have been reported dead at Baku a community near the Atuabo Gas Processing Company in the Western Region after a gas tanker exploded.

Confirming the incident to Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene Gyan, District Police Commander, Superintendent Thomas Bayor said the dead have been identified as Samuel Kenyah a 16-year-old welder apprentice who died on the spot while Amos Tetteh the driver’s mate died at the Eikwei mission hospital.

The other two injured persons have also been identified as Michael Boavo aged 26 and Jackson Bosompem aged 23 years both welders.

They are currently receiving treatment at the Eikwei hospital.

According to Supt. Bayor the driver of the Gas tanker Eklu Agbormegah, 47, was traveling from Takoradi to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant when the vehicle developed a fault.

He then moved to the welding shop for the problem to be solved. In the process the vehicle exploded and killed the apprentice instantly and injured the others.

It is, however, not known if the vehicle was filled with gas.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Axim government hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The driver is currently in the grips of the Ellembelle police assisting investigations.
