President-elect John Mahama’s side of the Joint Transition Team, is warning public sector workers that it would not abide by any new recruitments, promotions and transfers facilitated by the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration.
The side which constitutes senior members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the incumbent government had failed to run such decisions by it despite an initial pledge to do.
In a letter signed by the group’s spokesman, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the opposition urged workers not to be swayed by the government’s offers to them post-election as that could have implications for them.
“The Transition Team of the President-elect wishes to state emphatically, that given the bad faith displayed by the government, all these payments, recruitments, transfers and promotions, some of which have been backdated, will be reversed and, where necessary, public officials responsible for them held to strict account when a formal transfer of power takes place.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all public officials are strongly cautioned to resist pressure from outgoing political actors to engage in these acts as they could attract severe consequences when the new government takes office,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu wrote.
Since the joint transition team was inaugurated by President Akufo-Addo and President-elect Mahama, the NDC side has raised concerns about ongoing agreements and payments it deems inappropriate. The members have called on government to allow the incoming administration to determine how some of these transactions need to be handled.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu had earlier claimed that their side had flagged a GHC240 million payment the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was in the process of transferring to a business partner.
He insisted that the incoming government would not recognize such agreements and payments when it takes office next month.
