Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has rallied the military to intensify efforts in combating illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the government’s full support in the fight against environmental destruction.
As Chair of the Armed Forces Council, she underscored the need for a stronger collaboration between the military and relevant agencies to curb the menace.

Speaking after the swearing-in of the Council, Prof. Naana Jane assured that decisive actions would be taken to safeguard the country’s water bodies, farmlands, and natural resources from the devastating effects of ‘Galamsey’.
“We shouldn’t forget about other illegal things going on in the country. We have illegal mining, illegal logging, illegal unreported and unregulated fishing piracies, violent extremism, terrorism.
“These remind all of us, even chieftain’s disputes, all of these should remind all of us that there’s a lot of work ahead. As a council we pledge to play a role and we want to invite everybody to come along. Security, as they say, is everybody’s business”, he added.
