Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has confirmed Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is the running mate choice for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 general election.
Starr News sources at the presidency on Wednesday indicated that there was a late-night discourse between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his boss, President Akufo-Addo on Dr. Bawumia’s preferred choice.
With the media landscape awash with names of Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the preferred choice with similar sentiments expressed in a couple of surveys including a recent one attributed to NIB’s report, Boakye-Danquah confirmed the Vice President’s choice.
Speaking to Joshua Kodjo Mensah on GHOne TV he revealed that the choice will soon be presented to the National Executive Council for approval before an official announcement is made.
“”You are aware that yesterday (Wednesday) Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party presented his choice for running mate to the President,”
When asked if Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s name was presented to President Akufo-Addo, PaIgrave answered “Yes, that was the name that was presented and I’m also aware that there is going to be a presentation to NEC.”
“The President gave his blessing. It will be presented to NEC and the General Secretary will issue out a communique to that effect and all of us will be whipped in line” he stated.
Meanwhile, Political Branding, Marketing, and Communications Expert Prof. Kobby Mensah believes Dr. Matthew Opoku does not have the ability to mop up support for the New Patriotic Party on a national level.
He contends that certain character traits of Opoku Prempeh may affect his quest to appeal to swing regions like the Central and Greater Accra regions.
