Four people have died in a fatal road traffic accident on the Buipe–Tamale highway, while the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully rescued three others in a swift emergency response.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sawaba No. 2, involving a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 9332-17 travelling from Buipe to Kumasi and a trailer truck which reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service on Facebook, the Buipe Fire Command responded promptly to the accident scene, where several passengers had already sustained injuries.
“Prior to the GNFS crew’s arrival, 19 passengers had already been rescued to the Buipe Government Hospital,” the Service said.

The fire crew managed to extricate three victims who were trapped inside the severely damaged Sprinter minibus. However, four persons — two males and two females — were confirmed dead.
“The deceased at the scene were handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation,” the GNFS added.
Three victims were reported to have died at the scene, while one later passed away at the hospital despite efforts to save their lives.
The GNFS further indicated that the Sprinter Benz sustained significant damage, and preliminary findings suggest that the trailer truck involved in the crash caused the accident before fleeing the scene.
The swift intervention of the Buipe Fire Station team, led by STNO II Abubakar M. Sheriff, was credited with preventing further casualties and ensuring that survivors received timely medical attention.
