The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has granted the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) permission for lawyers to withdraw their services from court appearances on Monday, June 30, 2025.
This decision is in conformity with tradition, as June 30 is celebrated as Martyrs’ Day in Ghana.

MRS. JUSTICE CECILIA KORANTENG-ADDOW
MR. JUSTICE K.A. AGYEPONG were murdered on that day.
In a circular dated June 17, 2025 and addressed to all judges and magistrates, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie informed them of the approval granted to members of the GBA to abstain from court appearances on June 30, 2025.
This means that lawyers will not be available to represent clients or participate in court proceedings on that day.
The Acting Chief Justice’s letter is a courtesy notification to ensure that judges and magistrates are aware of the situation and can make necessary arrangements for the day.
Martyrs’ Day is a significant event in Ghana’s calendar, and this tradition of granting exemption to lawyers has been observed for many years.
