The Brong Ahafo regional Tourism Manager, Joseph Appiagyei, said Monday that the devastating accident that occurred over the weekend at the Kintampo Waterfalls is purely natural.
“Yesterday’s incidence can be said to be a natural disaster. It is not anything that anybody can predict,” he upheld on the Morning Starr.
Nineteen persons on Sunday were confirmed dead at the Kintampo Waterfalls in the Bono Ahafo region after trees crashed on them following a heavy rainstorm.
Eyewitnesses say the heavy trees fell from the top of the waterfalls and landed on the people, mostly students engaging in local tourism.
“A huge tree fell at the top when the rains began and crashed the revelers,” an eyewitness told Starr News. “So far we have counted 16 people.”
“Most of them are students of the Wenchi Senior High School. Others are tourists. We are trying to save those who are trapped by cutting the trees with chainsaws.”
The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Bono Ahafo regional Police Command, Sergeant Sampson Gbande told Francis Abban host of Morning Starr that six females and 12 males died after the incident.
“Some people have fractures on their hands and legs,” he said.
Wiafe Akenten, a local reporter in Kintampo said the town is “calm” except for the incidence that took place yesterday [Sunday].
“What happened yesterday has got people talking in Kintampo. Others are reading various meanings into it,” he added.
