Construction works on the Asuokaw footbridge in the Eastern Region have resumed following a temporary suspension caused by heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the river.
The update was announced by the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who said the rains had made construction activities difficult and unsafe over the past few months.
According to the Minister, substantial progress had been made on the project before the suspension. With conditions at the site now permitting work to continue, the contractor has returned to site and construction activities have recommenced.
The project is currently at the concrete casting stage, with concrete being placed for the relevant structural components of the bridge.
The concrete will subsequently be allowed to cure and attain the required strength before the next phase of construction begins.
Upon completion and curing of the concrete works, the metal bridge structure will be installed and fixed in place, which will constitute the final major stage of the project.
The Eastern Regional Minister stressed that the temporary suspension should not be interpreted as an abandonment of the project, explaining that it was necessitated by prevailing conditions at the site.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a safe and durable bridge to the people of Asuokaw, as promised.
The Regional Minister further assured that her office would continue to engage the contractor and monitor progress to ensure the project is completed and delivered to the community.
