Ghana midfielder Michael Essien attended the official launch of the Indonesia top-flight season on Monday which kicks off on April 15.
The 34-year-old, who joined heavyweights Persib Bandung, was among high-profile personalities who graced the occasion at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta.
The former Chelsea star is one of several top players who are in the Asian region to revive their careers alongside former premier league colleague Carlton Cole.
Persib will host Arema FC in all Javanese battle on Saturday, with the 38,000-capacity Stadion Gelora Bandung Lautan Api likely to be packed to the rafters.
It’s the opening Match-day of the first official season since 2015 when Indonesia was handed a year-long FIFA ban for government interference in football and Essien is expected to be the toast of the fans on Saturday.
