The Lawyer for seven out of 14 suspects standing trial in the murder of Major Mahama has withdrawn his services.
Lawyer George Bernard Shaw told an Accra High Court hearing the case on Thursday, 15 February, 2018, that he could not continue to represent the suspects due to challenges.
The seven are part of 14 suspects including the Assembly Member for Denkyira Obuasi who have been put before the High Court to be tried for murder, after a District Court committed them for trial.
Fifteen witnesses are expected to be called by the prosecution while 52 different pieces of evidence as part of their case will also be presented when the trial begins.
The exhibits include the burnt shirt of Major Mahama, his mobile phone, sticks, metal rods, stones and other tools allegedly used by the accused persons to lynch the military officer.
Others are crime scene photographs, the video recording that captured the lynching among other exhibits.
The accused persons are William Baah, the Assemblyman of Denkyira Obuasi; Bernard Asamoah alias Daddy; Kofi Nyarko aka Abortion; Akwasi Baah; Kwame Tuffour; Joseph Appiah Kubi; Michael Anim and Bismarck Donkor.
Others are John Bosie; Akwasi Baah; Charles Kwaning; Emmanuel Badu; Bismarck Abanga and Kwadwo Anima.
All of them have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The case has been adjourned to 5 March 2018. The Court is expected to set up a jury for full trial to begin.
Major Mahama was lynched on suspicion that he was an armed robber after a group of residents at Denkyira Obuasi from whom he asked for directions during a dawn jogging session spotted a pistol on him.
