The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has signalled his intent to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.
In a high-profile start to his campaign, Wontumi and his team paid courtesy calls on Wednesday to the NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
These visits mark the beginning of a broader nationwide stakeholder engagement strategy designed to unify the party following the 2024 general elections.
During the meetings, Wontumi expressed his gratitude to both leaders for their roles in “rebuilding and repositioning the party.
He emphasized that his candidacy is built upon four pillars of service and unity, grassroots mobilization, disciplined campaigning, and utilising his longstanding reputation to strengthen the party.

Wontumi underscored the necessity of “reconciliation and healing” within the NPP ranks.
He reiterated that his ambition is fully aligned with the goal of returning the party to power in the 2028 elections.
“Rebuilding and energizing the grassroots machinery of the party remains essential to the NPP’s quest to recapture power,” Wontumi stated, calling for a leadership style rooted in inclusiveness.
The campaign team used the opportunity to seek the “prayers, guidance, and goodwill” of the two elder statesmen as the internal electoral process begins.
Wontumi pledged to maintain fairness and stability throughout the upcoming National Executive elections.
