The Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu has stated shake-ups and transfers in the Service must not be misconstrued as a weapon to settle personal vendetta.
Mr. Asante-Apeatu has done at least three reshuffles within the Service since assuming office within a year and the recent shake-up saw strategic changes at the hierarchy following a series of armed robberies within the country.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Director General of Police Operations was moved to head the Research department of the service and was replaced by the Eastern regional commander DCOP Simon Afeku.
Speaking to the media about the changes, the IGP said transfers and shake-ups are normal within any security setup.
“Is not like someone is being victimised,” Mr. Asante-Apeatu clarified, adding the development rather brings forth ideas and innovations.
He has assured the general public of his charges’ readiness to protect lives and properties, noting as a result of the operational changes “new arrests will be made soon.”
So far about 40 robbery cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year.
In the most recent attacks, one person was killed and huge sums of monies stolen after robbers struck in Accra and Tema in broad daylight within two days.
Last Thursday, a mobile money vendor was reported to have been stabbed at an area close to East Legon while a woman was robbed of GHC9000 after visiting a bank on Friday.
