The Ghana Blind Sports Association [GBSA] is billed to hold its elective congress on November 19, 2018 in Kumasi.
The Ghana Blind Sports Association is the sports wing of the Ghana Blind Union and the sole body mandated to develop blind sports in Ghana in collaboration with the National Sports Authority through the National Paralympic Committee.
There are five positions up for grabs at this year’s congress; President, first vice president [solely reserved for women], second vice, secretary, and information officer.
Over 30 delegates are expected to vote at this year’s congress from all the ten regions, but it’s unclear if the incumbent Eric Kissi will contest his second term after leading the association for the past five years.
Meanwhile, no candidate has picked up nomination forms to contest, but the regional elections are ongoing and is expected to close in October.
The Ghana Blind Union has three main wings – the youth wing, women’s wing and the sports wing and has steadily increased in membership with a total membership of over 10500 persons throughout the ten regions of Ghana.
The Ghana Blind Union has 143 branches and is still growing.
The GBU has duly been registered by the Department of Social Welfare and the Registrar General’s Department.
