The Managing Director of the Accra Digital Centre, Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been given the young public Sector CEO of the year award at the 2019 Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards which took place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra from 23rd to 24th October, 2019.

This follows receipt of the International Telecommunication Union – ITU’s Global Ecosystem Best Practice Award by the Centre at the 2019 ITU Telecom World in Budapest, Hungary in September 2019.

From unoccupied blocks not connected to the internet in 2017, the Accra Digital Centre has seen transformation under the leadership of Mr. Ofosu Nkansah, who is the first MD of the Centre. Some of the achievements of the Centre in the last two years it has been in operation include achieving 100% occupancy, onboarding of over 40 technology companies involved in various ICT operations, creation of about 3,000 digital and ancillary jobs at the Centre, impact sourcing programs to train bottom of the pyramid people, training of 1000s of youth in both basic and advanced digital skills, nurturing of 150 digital startups, partnership programs with Oracle through the Ghana Oracle Digital Enterprise Program (GODEP) to support Ghanaian startups, partnership with ITU as the regional hub for ITU smart incubator program among others.

The theme for this year’s Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards was “Enhancing Public Sector efficiency through Digitization”. The 2019 APSCA provided a platform for professionals and to share insights on industry trends, business strategies and policies and articulate how African Ministries, department and agencies can work towards building a robust economy and there were award winners from Nigeria, Kenya and other African countries. This is the second edition of the awards, after a successful first edition in Kigali, Rwanda

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the special guest of the event, presented some of the awards and spoke about the various Digitization projects Government of Ghana is undertaking to formalize the economy.
