Government needs to take a hard decision by demolishing structures belonging to encroachers along the drains on the Tema-Motorway to prevent future flooding, an engineering expert has said.
Emmanuel Obeng Asamoah, a member of the Ghana Institute of Engineers, noted that if drastic decisions are not taken, the flooding situation on the highway would get worse.

Speaking on the Alert show with Adam Bona, Mr Asamoah indicated that failure to deal with encroachers will hamper the development of the road.
He said: “there are about more than 6 or 7 big major covets. All the drains from Aburi, Kentasi and co they run through Sakumono. Now a lot of places were saving as a natural basin so when it got flooded they said it will never come to the road. But now people have encroached the areas, so water will find its own way.”
“We have encroached along the corridor of the motorway, so now if you are going to do any expansion work on the motorway it’s a problem. Who sold those lands, nobody can tell,” he said.
He added “if we don’t take drastic decisions, the Tema motorway is going to be worse. now Sakumono, we have four major drainage that come to Sakumono basin, I know people encroaching Sakumono.”
