Civil Society group, the Elections Community of Practice and Learning, has questioned the commitment of government in implementing the recommendations of the constitutional review committee.
Processes to review the 1992 constitution appear to have hit a snag after the review committee finished its work.
Speaking on the Shaping the Nation on Starr FM, member of the NGO and chairman of the advocacy committee of the Ghana Federation for the disabled, Alexander Bankole Williams called on the government to implement the recommendations of the committee
“What we have to do is to implement the agreed-upon investigations. That is what the people Ghana want. So we should be seeing a clear implementation approach and plan. The Mahama administration commissioned a committee to ensure its implementation, not long after there was a change of government.
“Today, we have not seen the current government’s commitment towards the implementation. The current President spoke in favour of the implementation so why are we not seeing any action? Why are we allowing $6 million of taxpayers money to go waste,” he said.
Also commenting, Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament Alhaji Inusah Fuseini said the government is not committed to the process.
” There is clear evidence that there is no commitment to implement the recommendations of the commission”.
