Two Okada riders have died in a head-on collision the Begoro-Ahomamu road in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
The deceased are Biada Azutuor and Tetteh Peter.
The accident occurred Sunday, March 21 around 5:00 pm near Kwaku Botwe, a farming community along the road.
Tetteh Peter was riding with a pillion rider from Akoradako heading towards Ahomamu but on reaching the accident scene wrongfully overtook another rider ahead of him and collided head-on with Biada Azutuor,40, who was riding from the opposite direction.
Biada died on the spot after sustaining a fractured left leg with head injuries.
Tetteh was pronounced dead at the Begoro Government Hospital after he was rushed to the facility together with the pillion ridder who is now recuperating.
Acting PRO of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sergent Francis Gomado told Starr News that the accident is being investigated.
Meanwhile, three (3) students of Adeiso Presbyterian Senior High School in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region were crushed to death in a fatal accident Sunday, March 21.
The accident occurred when three Hyundai H100 commercial vehicles overtaking each other knocked down the students on a motorbike at Adeiso
Motorbike accidents have become rampant in the Eastern Region, according to Eastern Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD).
The Eastern Regional Commander of the MTTD Chief Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu has revealed that motorbikes (Okada)and tricycle (Pragia) killed 20 out 60 people in the region from January to February 2021.
Superintendent Ahiatafu indicated analysis by the MTTD shows that “motorcycles and tricycles are killing more people than the vehicles and most of them didn’t have a license so we are going to embark on series of checks on them. The public should not take it as the police are harassing them. When we arrest you we will ensure that the law takes it course,” he said.
