Fourteen Olympic federations have been aided financially with an amount of 96,000 dollars by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) to prepare adequately for the Commonwealth games in Birmingham with less than three months to the start of the multi-sports event.
First vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Paul Atsoe indicated to Starr FM sports that with the exception of athletics and football who received $8,000 each from the GOC due to its contingent size, the remaining 13 disciplines received 6000 dollars each from the Ghana Olympic Committee.
“I am sure federations have started receiving their cash, 14 federations qualified for the $ 96,960 fund and aside athletics and football who received 8,000 dollars each, the other 12 disciplines received 6,000 dollars each” He told Starr FM.
Ghana is hoping to go past the only medal won in boxing at the last edition of the commonwealth games in Australia in 2018 and the release of funds by ANOCA will go a long way to help the various federations prepare their athletes adequately for the games in London come July.
