Duraplast Limited plans to resume full production on Monday, October 5, 2026, after a fire destroyed the entire stock of products stored in its warehouse at the North Industrial Area in Avenor, Accra.
Bismark Tsatsu, the company’s Systems Manager responsible for Health and the Environment, said the blaze originated from a residential area known as the Islam area, where a cooking gas explosion is believed to have sparked the fire.
According to him, the company is continuing its assessment of the damage and preparing to restock.
Tsatsu confirmed that management aims to return to full operations early next week.
“So, basically, yes, this morning we will continue with the assessment, and then we’ll look at where we’ll begin, you know, rebuilding—not rebuilding, but restocking our production. So, we plan to resume full operation by Monday, hopefully,” he assured in an interview with Starr News.
“This were caused by, yeah, fire that, uh, emanated from the Islam area where there are residences there. I don’t know the full details, but what I know is somebody was cooking, and then, uh, gas exploded, and then we have the story that we have,” Tsatsu stated.
He explained that while the full financial cost of the damage could not yet be quantified, every product on the warehouse floor at the time of the incident was completely destroyed.
“By estimation of damage, we can’t readily put a figure on the damage caused, but our entire stock of product on the floor at the time of the fire incident, totally got damaged,” he said.
Tsatsu expressed relief that the fire was contained before it reached the main factory, where critical machinery and equipment are located.
He credited the Ghana National Fire Service and other state authorities for their swift response in preventing further spread and maintaining order at the scene.
“Thankfully, we were able to prevent the fire from spreading to our main factory where there were machineries and other equipment that, thankfully, but we were able to save that with the help of Ghana National Fire Service. And then also, and then also, uh, you know, state authorities that help to, you know, provide security for us and then also, uh, ensure that there were law and order,” he noted.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, affected Duraplast’s warehouse and parts of neighbouring facilities in the North Industrial Area.
The company has indicated that operations at its other sites remain unaffected, allowing customers to continue accessing products such as pipes and water tanks through alternative outlets.
