A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Asah Asante has said President Akufo-Addo must deal with issues of corruption and destruction of the ecosystem with the level of anger he dealt with the Chief of Mempeasem.
President Akufo-Akufo expressed anger when the Chief of Mempeasem, Nii Torgbor Ampaw VI was seen sitting while the national anthem was being observed.
At the commencement of the programme last Friday 9th June 2023 the National Anthem was observed, and the President was seen directing the Regional Minister for Greater Accra, Henry Quartey, to get the chief’s attention to observe the anthem, because he was seated whilst it was being observed.
The development has generated comments especially how the President was seen instructing the Regional Minister to handle the issue.
Commenting on the issue on Morning Starr with Francis Abban Thursday the political science lecturer indicated that in as much as the President is justified in calling on the chief to observe the anthem he was surprised with the President’s anger.
“Yes he has to be angry but the extent to which it happened is the problem. I find it interesting because I would have thought that Mr. President will also be angry about certain things that affects our dear lives in this country.
“We are in this country where people are destroying the ecosystem, particularly water bodies without such anger from Mr. President. All that we have is statements and these things continue. I would have love that my President to be more angry the way the water bodies are being destroyed I will have love that Mr. President extend that anger to destruction of the ecosystem,” Dr. Asah stated
He continued: “I will love that Mr. will be angry about issues on corruption in this country and the way we deal with it. I would love for my President to be more angry about waste in the system that undermines our efforts in governing effectively in this country. This is where I will love my President, your President to channel his energies to deal with it head-on.”
