The Smart Environmental Networks Africa (SENsA) research team, affiliated with the School of Sustainable Development at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Somanya in Ghana has secured the esteemed title of the Best Project Team in the 2023 Korea SHE Global Seed Foundation’s grants.
The team members – Dr. Kwaku Adu from the Department of Applied Economics, alongside Dr. Kwame B. Bour and Dr. Eunice Stella Nyarko from the Department of Built Environment’s groundbreaking project stood out among 200 submissions in March 2023.
Out of the 26 teams honored with the 2023 Global Seed Grants from 15 different countries, SENsA from UESD proudly represented Ghana as the sole team from the nation.
The award-winning project, initiated in May and concluded in October 2023, aimed at fostering environmental education and justice through religious diversity.
The recognition and announcement of SENsA as the best project team was made in November, 2023 at the foundation’s final meeting.
Dr. Kwaku Adu told Starr News, the UESD team is set to embark on a six-month project titled “Promoting environmental education and justice through religious diversity in Ghana” in the Kumasi Metropolis from May to October 2024.
The upcoming venture will concentrate on educating communities about the perils of environmental degradation, coupled with training sessions on environmental policies and justice for 600 religious leaders and their representatives.
The project also envisions overseeing master trainers as they organize localized training workshops in their respective assemblies.
Generously funded by the Korea Safety, Health, and Environment Foundation, the grant is open to researchers worldwide, it recognizes and rewards impactful contributions in the realm of environmental-related issues.
