Okyeman council has announced final funeral rite ceremony to be held for the first Okyeman Twafohene, Okatakyie Kyeretwie Boakye Dankwa, also known in private life as Dr. Joseph Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah and popularly christened the doyen of Gold Coast politics.

The funeral rite is in accordance with Akyem Abuakwa customs and traditions which state that a final funeral rite for a chief or king can only be held after the enstoolment of a successor.

After 58 years of the stool remaining vacant, Dr. J. B Danquah’s successor, Okatakyie Ababio Boakye Dankwa II has been enstooled by the Okyeman council on the 16th of December, 2023 ,paving way for the performance of his final funeral rite expected to be held on the 10th of February, 2024.

The late J.B. Danquah, was a politician, scholar, lawyer, statesman, and traditional ruler who passed away on February 4, 1965.

A beacon of leadership, left a legacy that echoed through lifetime but his traditional position remained vacant until recently.
