Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustus Nkrumah has told the High Court in Accra that, his reference of Daniel Asiedu, the man held for the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu as a ‘terrible guy’ is “not a perception.”

According to the Investigator, Asiedu alias Sexy Don Don is capable of doing anything including “killing” the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North.

Asiedu has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder and also separately denied the charge of robbery. He, together with Vincent Bossu, alias Junior Agoogo pleaded not guilty for conspiracy to rob.

ASP Nkrumah who is the 8th Prosecution Witness in the ongoing trial before Justice Lydia Osei Marfo is facing cross-examination from defence lawyers led by Lawyer Yaw Dankwah.

It was the case of Defence Counsel Yaw Dankwah that, when the Witness told the Court previously that, the 1st accused person is a terrible person capable of killing J.B. Danquah, that was “a perception he had from 2016 to date.”

Counsel explained further that, that perception was why when he (Counsel) asked him about who certified the death of the deceased, he was unable to tell “because you told this court that it is not in dispute.”

Responding to Counsel’s suggestion, the Witness said, “that is not the perception we had about the 1st accused person.”

“My lady, per the statements given by the 1st and 2nd accused persons before this court, they clearly stated that they are thieves.

“And it can be clearly seen from their own statements that on that day they were going for their so called stealing expedition and they were carrying offensive weapons an indication that they are no more thieves but arm robbers.

“My lady, for an arm robber to have those offensive weapon with you, indicates that he is capable of resisting anything in the commission of the crime so when he (1st accused) had the chance of entering the deceased room to rob, he was to make sure that whatever prevented him from robbing was eliminated.

“As such when the deceased put up that resistance, the only thing the 1st accused could do is to stab him on the neck, the chest area about six (6) times for the deceased to give up the ghost.

“My lady, as an experienced police officer, it is easy to die by the gun done to die through the stab of a knife. The unfortunate thing is that you can see the death coming but you cannot resist it,” the Investigator told the Court.

Background

At the last Court sitting on February 22, 2024, while facing further Cross-Examination from defence lawyers led by Yaw Dankwah, the 8th Prosecution Witness said it was Daniel Asiedu who killed the late MP.

Defence Counsel Yaw Dankwah had suggested to ASP Nkrumah that his assertion of the accused being a killer really doesn’t matter.

But “what really made sense was that the deceased was a 6ft tall man, quite stocky, not lanky, and the accused person physically cannot overpower him.”

However, ASP Nkrumah in his response described Asiedu, the accused person as “a terrible guy.

The case which is being Prosecuted by Mrs Sefakor Batse, a Principal State Attorney has been adjourned to March 11, 2o24 for Continuation.
