Why wear white to Ejisu – Mustapha Gbande chides Akufo Addo

The Deputy General Secretary for the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has questioned the reasoning behind the white apparel President Akufo–Addo wore to Ejisu at a time the constituency was still mourning the death of its departed former Member of Parliament John Kumah.

According to Mustapha Gbande, the president’s appearance constituted an act of disrespect for the memory of John Kumah, the people of Ejisu, and Ghana as a whole.

In an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua 96.5 FM, he lamented, “Look at how they’ve handled the death of their own deceased Deputy Minister, John Kumah like it’s a child who passed on.”

After the passing of John Kumah, it’s not even been three months and a whole President who has lost a Deputy Minister is wearing a white dress. And he couldn’t say anything that would calm the hearts of the people of Ejisu but rather throwing jabs at independent candidates,” he fumed.

Gbande further noted that the level of discontent among the people of Ejisu against President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party is enough, as it speaks volumes.

Mustapha Gbande also criticized the President for taking the people of the Ashanti Region for granted.

“You can’t take your stronghold for granted as Akufo-Addo has done to the Ashanti Region; it seems the NPP sees Asantes as paying royalties to them,” he emphasized.

Comparing the kind of developmental projects executed by the NPP administration within the Ashanti and Eastern Regions, Gbande accused President Akufo-Addo of harboring hatred toward the people of the Ashanti Region.

“You don’t need to know anything to understand that Akufo-Addo hates the Ashanti Region. NPP’s biggest achievement in the Ashanti Region is a court complex, because to them, Asantes like litigations, so they should build a court complex. But if you go to Kyebi, they’re transforming the area with developmental amenities and projects,” he stated.

Gbande also accused President Akufo-Addo of fighting traditional authorities in his last tenure as President of the Republic of Ghana and described his 7 years in office as a waste.

“President Akufo-Addo is now in conflict with traditional authorities during his final term in office, but the people of Gonjaland showed him a lesson that he can’t do that. The presidency is a high office, it’s not for pettiness. Akufo-Addo is a pity. His 7 years have just been wasted; destinies, lives wasted in this country,” he stated.
