Renowned Ghanaian music maestro, M3nsa has stated that the Grammy Awards’ expansion into Africa is not needed when the music translates globally
According to the outspoken music expert, the music done in Africa extends globally and does not only stay in Africa. “If the music we are doing is equally as good as everyone’s music, then invite us to the main event, let’s get done with it besides, that’s what people want to hear.”
Speaking to Francis Abban on Morning Starr, he expressed that, “When they start sectioning this, it becomes ‘no colours’ situation We don’t need an African version of Grammy. When the music we do extends globally, personally. I don’t expect this, but maybe there is a deeper thinking behind it”
The Recording Academy, globally renowned for organising the prestigious Grammy Awards, recently announced plans to establish an African version of the event to bolster the Academy’s influence in rapidly growing music.
however, as excitement mounts for the inaugural Grammy Africa Awards scheduled for either 2027 or 2028, Ghana finds herself excluded from the spotlight of this historic event.ing to fulfil the requirements to join the ranks of founding countries—Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa—in hosting the awards.
In an interview with Lady Dentaa “It’s a bit unfortunate, but the agreement that would have solidified Ghana’s participation didn’t come to fruition. As a result, the four countries–Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa will be the ones hosting the Grammy Africa Awards and enjoying the associated benefits. So for now, Ghana is not part of the founding member countries.
“While Ghanaian artistes will still be eligible for nominations and participation in the Grammy Africa Awards, the country will miss out on the significant opportunities and prestige that come with being a founding member and host”.
This development marks a missed chance for Ghana to solidify her place on the global music stage and benefit from the cultural and economic advantages that come with hosting such a high-profile event.
Lady Dentaa however expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating it would significantly bridge the gap between African artistes and the global creative community
He disclosed that his music career is not built to chase awards though he has won several awards and nominated twice at MOBO awards.
M3nsa is gearing up to drop his three part EP dupped ‘FOLAH’ meaning Fear Of Love And Happiness will “touch of sensitive things we don’t talk about”
He added that the upcoming project will talk about realities in relationships, society not the usual ‘ I dey feel your body ‘ vibe
