As the world celebrates International Youth Day (IYD) today under the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” the Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF) is calling on the African Union and member states to streamline processes that foster digital innovation for a youth development agenda.
This comes on the back of calls made by delegates of the Foundation’s 2022 African Youth and Governance Convergence (AYGC), held in Lusaka, Zambia to the African Union and other stakeholders to make conscious efforts “to invest more in equitable skills training in digital technologies” for youth “without any geographical or disability limitation or discrimination” and “to harness technology to drive youth development”.
The AYGC 2022 brought together 50 young leaders from 20 African countries and the Diaspora and was held under the theme “Harnessing Technology and Digital Innovations to Advance Africa’s Youth Development Agenda”.
Following the call made by the delegates, the Foundation has established the Youth Tech Bridge, a program designed to bridge the technological divide between rural and urban youth while fostering integrated IT development.
The Foundation has also set up the West Africa Youth Advisory Board, an initiative that connects youth voices across borders, further reinforcing the importance of digital innovation in youth development. This effort aligns with the goals of the AYGC 2022, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and the overarching theme of this year’s IYD.
As YBF continues to champion this cause, the organization is calling on the AU and its member states to harness the power of digital innovation to drive sustainable development.
