The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to promote gender parity and empower women in various sectors, including education, business, and healthcare.

During the launch of the party’s manifesto, Vice President and flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, outlined the NPP’s vision for a more inclusive and equitable society. “We will ensure gender parity in the award of government scholarships,” Dr. Bawumia announced, emphasizing the party’s commitment to education.

The NPP also plans to establish a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund (WOTEF) to support women-owned businesses and entrepreneurship. “We will establish a women’s trade empowerment fund to support women-owned businesses,” Dr. Bawumia stated, highlighting the importance of economic empowerment for women. Additionally, the party vowed to improve maternal healthcare programs and enforce existing regulations on maternity leave governance.

Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the need for women to take leadership roles in international organizations, announcing the launch of a women in diplomacy program. “We will pursue a women in diplomacy program for Ghanaian women to take more leadership roles in international organizations,” he said. The NPP also pledged to strictly enforce existing sexual harassment laws and create a supportive environment for working mothers.

To enable mothers to seamlessly enter the workforce, the NPP plans to prioritize the establishment of daycare centers near workplaces, including marketplaces, in partnership with the private sector. “We’ll enable mothers to seamlessly enter the workforce by prioritizing the establishment of daycare centers near workplaces,” Dr. Bawumia explained. This initiative aims to reduce the burden on working mothers and promote gender equality in the workplace.

The NPP’s manifesto pledges have been welcomed by many as a step in the right direction towards achieving gender parity and empowering women in Ghana. As Dr. Bawumia aptly put it, “We will implement in full the Affirmative Action Act we recently passed.” With these ambitious plans, the NPP is committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all Ghanaians.
