The Electoral Commission (EC) is calling on Ghanaians to actively engage in the upcoming voters’ exhibition exercise scheduled for August 20 to August 27. The exercise will be conducted at all polling stations nationwide, allowing citizens to correct errors in the voters’ register and confirm their polling stations ahead of the December 7th elections.
Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of corporate services, emphasized the exercise’s primary goal of sanitizing the voters’ register. He explained that voters can identify and correct spelling errors, challenge unqualified voters, and rectify wrong registration codes, among other issues.
The exhibition will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily across all 268 districts nationwide. Dr. Asare stressed that the exercise is crucial for ensuring a robust and credible register for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Dr. Asare clarified that the voters’ register is currently provisional, and the exhibition aims to rectify all errors before finalization. “By provisional, it implies that the register is not final,” he said. The EC assures that after the exhibition, the final register will be accurate and credible.
Responding to concerns about delays in providing the provisional register to political parties, Dr. Asare explained that the EC is within the legal timeframe. The Commission has until the end of August 2024 to release the provisional register following the limited registration.
Ghanaians are encouraged to participate fully in the exhibition exercise to ensure the integrity of the upcoming elections. The EC has fulfilled its obligations under the law, with the limited registration process ending on May 29, 2024, and the mop-up registration concluding on August 10, 2024.
