Founder of Maker’s House Chapel International, Dr. Michael Boadi Nyamekye, has revealed plans for a new educational initiative aimed at addressing the pressing healthcare needs of Ghana.
Discussing the extensive land next to the church facility on Starr Chat, October 3, 2024, Dr. Nyamekye stated, “What you see there is all going to be used for the university. We already have an authorization for a University College of Medicine and Allied Health.” The formation of this institution aims to fill a significant gap in the healthcare sector, which Dr. Nyamekye believes is essential for Ghana’s future.
“Interestingly, we have an abundance of architects, accountants, and marketers,” he pointed out, highlighting the disparity in professional training. “But if you look at our health sector, developing and maintaining a culture of empathy and raising people to work as medical officers and health experts happens to be the gap that I found in society.”
Even with skepticism regarding the ambition of his initiative, given his background in business and marketing, Dr. Nyamekye remains firm in his resolve. “The basis of our humanity is to move away from selfishness into selflessness. If there is a problem I can’t handle, I shouldn’t shy away from finding a solution,” he explained. “What we have as a nation requires a focus on health education. My development and orientation in business supply us with resources, but it is the healthcare sector that truly needs attention.”
Dr. Nyamekye’s vision is the idea of social entrepreneurship. He expressed, “Coming up with these initiatives is social entrepreneurship. I believe this is to solve societal problems profitably. We are putting strategy and marketing into play because that’s what entrepreneurship is about: solving problems.”
As he fulfills multiple roles as a businessman, educator, father, and man of God, Dr. Nyamekye’s dedication to advancing Ghana’s future through healthcare education demonstrates a deep understanding of the country’s needs. “Left to me alone, I would have gone down the path I’m comfortable with, but the nation needs something bigger.”
