The running mate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Wayoe Ghanamanti has unveiled the party’s transformative agenda for Ghana. In an exclusive interview with Starr News, Ghanamanti shared his insights on key national issues, including illegal mining, corruption, and economic reforms.

Addressing the controversial issue of illegal mining, he said during the height of the protests against the menace, the courts should have intervened to defuse tensions, rather than remanding them in police and prison custody.

Touching on his nomination as running mate, he described himself as a principled leader and noted that under a CPP government, one million illegal miners would be removed from water bodies and provided with sustainable jobs.

“We will clean up our rivers and create jobs for those displaced by illegal mining,” he vowed.

As a proud Rastafarian, Ghanamanti explained that Rastafari is about principles, not dreadlocks. He claimed that iconic leaders such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, former President J.J. Rawlings, and even President Nana Akufo-Addo embody the doctrine of Rastafarianism.

“It’s about the philosophy, not the appearance,” he said.

The CPP’s running mate also committed to giving voice to the voiceless and restoring lands degraded by illegal mining. He also pledged to tackle corruption by empowering institutions like the Office of the Special Prosecutor with the necessary resources to carry out their mandate effectively.

On justice reform, Ghanamanti proposed a radical shift from prison sentences to community service. He explained that the CPP would prioritize transforming offenders by assigning them to work on state farms, contributing to national development while reducing prison congestion.

Regarding youth employment, Ghanamanti promised to revamp the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) initiative, integrating its members into long-term employment.

He further criticized Ghana’s reliance on loans from Bretton Woods institutions, advocating for stronger collaboration with the private sector to drive economic growth.

While commending the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, he expressed concerns over its management, stressing that proper oversight is needed to ensure its sustainability.
