Election 2024: Bawumia has lost credibility – Philemon Laar

A lawyer and a communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of copying the policies promised by the NDC in their youth manifesto.

According to him, Bawumia’s policy on investing in IT jobs had already been promised by the NDC flag bearer, John Mahama.

The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that, as President of Ghana, he will focus on three key areas to empower the country’s youth. Addressing the youth in a live event from Accra on Sunday night, Dr. Bawumia said that after extensive engagement, he has identified that prioritizing education, skills training, and job creation will empower Ghana’s youth, and he is committed to achieving this as President.

Speaking on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko, Mr. Laar claimed that former President John Mahama commenced a strategic digitalization effort during his term in office. Mr. Laar stated he would not give credit to Bawumia because Mahama’s record in digitalization is flawless, referencing the Accra Digital Centre and the NCE building constructed under the Mahama administration, among others.

Philemon Laar further said that Bawumia is not credible. “There is one thing President Mahama is that Alhaji Bawumia is not, and that is credibility. President Mahama makes promises and delivers. He does not engage in ‘family and friends’ politics,” he added, asserting that Mr. Mahama is not ‘nepotistic.’ He also commended Mahama for equitably distributing resources and contracts during his presidency.

“Enough of the nepotism, enough of the situation where the president’s daughters are awarded contracts worth 34 million dollars at the expense of the masses in this country. That will not happen under President Mahama’s government. Indeed, the people in this country witnessed President Mahama’s government, and what they saw was credibility. They saw efficient delivery of roads, they saw efficient medical facilities, and they saw the effective establishment of several community day secondary schools across the length and breadth of this country. They saw integrity in government, which is lacking in this NPP government.”
