Ashanti Regional Hospital Commissioning: Euroget De-Invest accuses gov’t of breach of contract

Group Chairman of Euroget De-Invest S.A., Dr. Said Deraz, has raised serious concerns over the commissioning of the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on January 4, 2025.

In a press release dated January 5, 2025, the company described the event as a breach of contractual obligations, highlighting that the facility is incomplete and has not been officially handed over to the government.

Dr. Deraz stated that Euroget De-Invest S.A. has not received full payment for the project, and key tasks remain unfinished. These include the completion of power stations, installation of essential medical equipment, repairs to damaged structures and landscaping, and final works on staff housing. He emphasized that possession of the hospital remains with Euroget De-Invest S.A. until all contractual terms are fulfilled.

According to Dr. Deraz, the company was not consulted about the commissioning, nor was permission granted for the event. He noted that no Euroget representative was present, calling the commissioning an act of disregard for legal processes and a violation of their agreement. “This is a breach of the contract. We haven’t handed over, and every step should be taken to claim damages against all previous commissioning,” Deraz remarked.

He questioned the motives behind commissioning an incomplete hospital just days before the current government transitions out of office, describing the move as politically motivated.

The statement further noted the risks associated with commissioning an unfinished facility, pointing out that such actions undermine the integrity of the project and set a troubling precedent for future government contracts.

He also called on the government to respect the terms of the agreement, ensure due process, and resolve all outstanding issues to allow the project to be completed.

The company assured the public of its commitment to delivering the hospital to the highest standards and urged relevant authorities to investigate the matter. Dr. Deraz also reiterated the company’s readiness to pursue legal action if necessary to protect its rights and seek damages for breaches of the contract.
