The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has instructed its caterers to continue providing nutritious meals to beneficiary pupils across the 16 regions of Ghana, following the reopening of basic schools on January 8, 2025.
The programme, which benefits over four million school-going children in deprived public basic schools, is set to undergo a new caterer procurement process soon.
According to the release, the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) and the GSFP are working together with stakeholders to roll out this new process.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to the full implementation of the Home-grown School Feeding Programme, which aims to provide one hot nutritious meal to beneficiary pupils daily.
To ensure the programme’s success, the government has settled the Third Term arrears of the 2023/2024 academic year and paid 40 days out of the 71 cooking days’ arrears owed to caterers for the First Term of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The remaining 31 cooking days will be settled soon to complete the first term payment for 2024/2025.
The GSFP has appealed to stakeholders and opinion leaders to ensure that caterers can execute their mandate without any hindrances.
With the government’s commitment to the programme’s full implementation, the GSFP is poised to continue providing essential nutrition to millions of school-going children across Ghana.
