Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that changes will be made in the technical team of the Black Stars.
Media reports suggest that assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann could be relieved of their duties as part of restructuring efforts in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March this year.
Speaking to GHOne TV in an interview, Asante Twum confirmed that there will be changes in the technical team of the team but refused to call out names.
“At the last EXCO meeting, they looked at the roles of all the people that constitute the technical team including myself. And what we have contributed to the team within the last 7-8 months, so from the Head Coach to the Assistant Coaches, their respective roles to the goal keeper’s trainer, Physiotherapist. Physical trainers, and the medical team led by Dr. Pambo. And all the other service providers, team manager, Kits officer, Security officer and all of that.”
“I think ones the problems are identified; it’s part of the solutions so what I know is that there will be changes. I can’t put names to those changes I know that when the executive council has fund this up in terms of personnels who are going out and the incomings we will make an official announcement to that effect, but as things stand nobody has been released of his position or his post as it has been reported,” he told GHOne TV.
Under the leadership of head coach Otto Addo and assistant coaches John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and Fatau Dauda, the Black Stars recently suffered a significant setback by missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years.
During the qualifiers, the team recorded three defeats and three draws in six matches.
In March 2024, George Boateng and Didi Dramani were replaced by Paintsil and Laumann as assistant coaches.
The GFA is under pressure to swiftly implement changes and reposition the Black Stars for success in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers phase.
