The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini says that the Minority caucus in Parliament led by Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin is struggling to adjust to its current role in Parliament, following a significant reduction in its numbers.
“The Minority is suffering from withdrawal symptoms. They are yet to come to terms with being an abysmal minority,” he said, referring to the reduced presence of the opposition in Parliament.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere, Suhuyini remarked that the altercations in the parliamentary chamber were regrettable and pointed out that the situation had been further compounded by the apology offered by the Minority Leader.
“The chaos in Parliament was regrettable and I hope we learn better lessons, especially when the Minority Leader has apologized to the Speaker and to Ghanaians,” Suhuyini stated.
While acknowledging the apology, the Tamale North MP added that he hoped it was sincere and would lead to more responsible actions in the future.
Suhuyini also expressed hope that the apology would help the Minority come to terms with its position in the parliamentary dynamics, particularly in terms of its size and influence. “With this apology, I hope they come to terms with being not just a minority, but a small one,” he added.
The incident in Parliament, which involved a heated confrontation between Members of Parliament, has sparked widespread debate about the conduct of lawmakers and the state of Ghana’s political environment.
