A Ghanaian highlife musician, Kwabena Kwabena, has encouraged musicians to openly support political parties or make music for them.
He believes that since everyone has their own opinions, musicians should feel free to express theirs.
In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the singer also added that politics is part of life, and people should be free to express their choices.
“No matter what, if get to the ballot box you will vote for a particular person. So there is nothing wrong with you supporting a particular candidate.
“Based on the fact that you believe the person can offer something good to our great nation. I believe that politics is okay and everybody has a side”, Kwabena Kwabena stated.
According to him, it is important to keep in mind that endorsing a political party does not demonstrate your position on particular subjects.
However, he also clarified that he is not a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite previously campaigning for them.
The singer addressed speculations about his political affiliation.
When asked if he was still an NPP member, he firmly responded, “No, I don’t belong to the NPP but I did stuff for them.”
He further stated, “I’ve never been a card-bearing”. However, he admitted, “I did campaign, so I think I did it.”
The singer also spoke about a situation that left him disappointed with an unfinished engagement he had with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2024 election but they used his voice with his permission. Although he did not give specific details about his conversation with the NPP, he mentioned that a conversation was left unfinished.
“I was disappointed because it’s not right,” he said. “We must finish the conversation and make sure everything is okay, in terms of us all agreeing to the terms and conditions.”
