Captain of Ghana’s national amputee football team, Richard Opentil Arthur, has revealed that bonuses due to the Black Challenge team from winning the 2024 Amputee AFCON have not been paid.
Arthur, who led the team to win gold at the tournament last year in Egypt, said that the current state of amputee football in the country has no future, especially due to the absence of a league.
The captain, who spoke exclusively to EIB Sports on Monday night, also revealed that their unpaid bonuses date as far back as 2023, when the team won gold in the first African Paralympic Games held in Ghana.
Richard Arthur, who currently plays in the Turkish league, has called on President John Mahama, whom he refers to as “a listening president,” and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the players.
He has also called for adequate preparations as the Black Challenge prepares for the 2026 Amputee World Cup.
