Kwesi Botchway Jnr., an aide to former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed criticisms suggesting it is premature for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to turn its attention to the 2028 elections.
His response comes amid growing public debate, with critics arguing that the party is yet to fully recover from its defeat in the 2024 general elections and is rushing into future electoral ambitions.
Some have further accused the party of prioritizing election victories over national development.
However, speaking on *Morning Starr* with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Botchway insisted that the NPP is right to begin reorganization efforts.
He stated that any serious political party must begin preparing early for its next opportunity to lead.
He stressed that the goal of any political party is to win political power, and such efforts must be strategic and timely.
According to him, close to five months have passed since the 2024 elections—enough time to begin rebuilding and reconnecting with the party’s grassroots.
He said, “I disagree because the party is currently in the process of reorganization. The Thank You Tour was a decision by the National Council of the Party led by the flag bearer who the good people of this country voted for in the 2024 election. If you look at the kind of governance this kind of situation has started exhibiting, it is clear that it is the NPP that best steers the affairs of this nation. So I don’t think it is too early for us to start talking about 2028.”
“In any case, the major aim of every political party is to win political power. It is very important that as a political party we reorganize our base, we energize our base, we unite our base to ensure that we are ready and poised to win the next election. So I do not think it is too early. Because it’s been about close to five months after the last election. So it is very important that we put ourselves together, we put our base together, the flag bearer connects with the party executives across the region. The party also connects with its executives at the constituency and regional level. So I think the Thank You Tour is in order. It is also in order for us to start talking about 2028.”
