Dancehall star, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has called for the dissolution of Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, arguing that the sector has delivered little visible impact for creative professionals.
Speaking in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, the musician said practitioners in music, film, and related fields “don’t even hear anything” from the ministry.
“I think the Creative Arts, they have to dissolve that ministry… because we don’t even hear anything,” he stated.
Despite identifying the Minister, Dzifa Gomashie, as his ‘Aunty’, Shatta Wale maintained that her Ministry ought to be dissolved because it’s serving no useful purpose.
“I don’t care if she’s my aunty…we don’t see any innovative things coming out from that side. And it’s not affecting the industry,” he said.
He added that actors and musicians receive no meaningful support, citing examples of filmmakers and content creators such as Doctor Likee who struggle without government backing.
“They don’t help anything…the system, you see Ghana…sometimes I watch [them] talking so bitterly about [their] movies, the way [they] suffer… they don’t call them and say, ‘You are doing something for Ghana… Let us try and shape you,” he said.
