Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has launched an initiative to empower final-year pupils in the constituency ahead of the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.). Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Jerry Ahmed Shaib emphasized that the project aims to empower final-year pupils before they sit for the external exams.
“Today’s launch of the MP’s BECE Mock Examination is grounded in that truth: preparation unlocks potential. It ensures that our students do not enter their final exams uncertain and afraid, but confident, ready, and capable of achieving excellence,” he said.
“This initiative is a symbol of our shared commitment to the future of our children and reflects the value we place on education as the true cornerstone of development, opportunity, and empowerment,” he added.
According to the second deputy minority Chief Whip, many pupils in the constituency have failed to perform due to a lack of necessary learning materials and preparation, hence the initiative.
“Over the years, we have observed that many brilliant students face significant barriers in adequately preparing for their final examinations. Some lack access to essential learning materials, while others have not had the benefit of sitting structured practice exams that simulate the real Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) experience. As a result, many students are underprepared, not because they lack ability, but because they lack adequate preparation and exposure.”
“Today, with the launch of this special Mock Examination, we are changing that story. We are ensuring that every final-year student, regardless of background or school, will have the opportunity to be properly assessed, guided, and supported ahead of this important, life-changing examination,” he emphasized.
According to him, the project will feature:
- Standardized mock examinations set by experienced examiners;
- Marking and feedback by seasoned educators from the Municipal Education Directorate and external examiners;
- Most importantly, free participation for every student.
He also announced special awards and packages for schools that excel in this Mock Examination, as well as for schools that achieve outstanding results in the BECE itself later this year.
The awards, he explained, are to promote healthy academic competition, recognize the dedication of our hardworking teachers, and inspire every school to aim higher.
Jerry Ahmed Shaib added that the initiative is part of his broader vision to reform, support, and uplift the educational system in Weija-Gbawe.
He urged the students to take advantage of the initiative:
“To my dear students, this initiative is for you. Seize it. Study hard, stay focused, and remember, your dreams are valid, and your potential is limitless. You are capable!” he urged.
