Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, is set to face Parliament next week to respond to questions surrounding the unresolved parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North constituency.
This was announced by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga during the presentation of the Business Statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday, June 13, 2025.
According to Mr. Ayariga, the EC will be required to answer two key questions regarding the delay in concluding the collation of results from the December 2024 general elections.
“The Electoral Commission will be asked two questions, so the EC Chair will appear before the Committee of the whole to answer two questions” Mr. Ayariga said.
The Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant since the start of the 9th Parliament in January 2025, following a controversial and inconclusive election outcome.
Both the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn and the NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie have claimed victory, deepening the political standoff.
The Electoral Commission suspended the collation of results on January 5, 2025, citing interference and the appearance of unauthenticated figures at the collation centre. No official declaration has been made since, prompting widespread concern.
Despite efforts to resolve the impasse—including a high-level meeting between the EC and the Ghana Police Service on May 30—there has been no official timeline for resolution.
Frustration continues to grow among constituents in Ablekuma North, who have been without parliamentary representation for over six months.
