A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ellen Ama Daaku, has claimed that the arrest of former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (ICCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye is a deliberate strategy by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to divert public attention from its governance challenges.
Speaking on GhToday on GHOne TV on Wednesday, Daaku argued that the timing of the arrest — which occurred over the weekend — coincides with mounting pressure on the government regarding several key issues.
“You have arrested him Saturday, Sunday, Monday. That’s your job,” she said. “What happened to our money and the chickens? What’s up with the flood? What’s up with the one job, one person, three shifts?”
Daaku highlighted the government’s alleged failure to address perennial flooding in parts of the country and the underperformance of the nkoko nkitinkiti initiative, an apparent reference to a poultry or agricultural program.
She also referenced the NDC’s campaign promise of employment opportunities structured around “one job, three people, three shifts,” criticizing the lack of reliable electricity to support such shifts.
According to Daaku, the NDC is resorting to the arrest of opposition activists and social media influencers, including TikTokers, to suppress criticism rather than tackling its shortcomings.
“The government is afraid of their failure, and they are passing it on to Ghanaians,” she stated.
“Instead of that, you are arresting opposition activists. Well, you’ve now arrested Miracles. You’ve arrested all the TikTokers…I’m also waiting for the day you arrest me because as for the talking, we will talk.”
She emphasized that the NPP would continue to hold the government accountable on substantive national issues.
“Unfortunately for them, we are going to continue fighting. We are back to the main issues,” Daaku concluded.
