Supreme Court nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has affirmed that judicial decisions are guided strictly by facts and evidence, not by personal relationships or affiliations.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, Justice Dzamefe addressed concerns about judicial independence and impartiality, particularly in cases involving familiar individuals or institutions.
“Mr. Chairman, as judges, we base our decisions on the evidence and the facts, not on friendship,” he stated. “So if I follow someone, not for me, but for the association, I was talking to the association, and that person appeared, not necessarily for my cause, the decision will be based on the facts and the evidence, not because of an association.”

He explained that while judges may have professional or social engagements, these do not compromise their objectivity or rulings.
Justice Dzamefe’s comments come amid ongoing public discourse on the need to uphold transparency, integrity, and fairness in Ghana’s judiciary.

His appearance before the Appointments Committee is part of a broader vetting process for seven nominees to the Supreme Court.
