Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, has questioned the relevance of President John Dramani Mahama’s recent nominations to the Supreme Court, describing them as unnecessary and politically motivated.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Friday, June 20, Mr. Asante said he has little interest in the ongoing vetting process, insisting that the appointments lack urgency and are part of a deliberate attempt by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to flood the judiciary with party loyalists.
“Personally, let me be very honest. I’ve really not developed the interest in monitoring this vetting process, for a simple reason; because I do not really believe there’s that urgent need for these nominations in the first place,” he said.
He accused the NDC of engaging in the very actions it previously criticized the NPP for when in opposition.

“We were in this country when the NDC kept telling us that the previous administration – the NPP government under Nana Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia – had actually paraded NPP fanatics at the Supreme Court, and that the number had even been bloated,” he said. “That was when they were in opposition. But what happened? After they got power, they felt it was also an opportune time to parade their people there. So I have not really been following.”
His comments come as Parliament’s Appointments Committee continues a three-day vetting exercise for seven new nominees to the apex court.
The process, which began on Monday, June 16, 2025, is being held in line with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires presidential consultation with the Council of State and parliamentary approval before justices are appointed to the Supreme Court.
