President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has touted his administration’s performance, describing the current GJA leadership as the best the Association has seen in recent years.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, June 23, Mr. Dwumfour expressed pride in his administration’s achievements, claiming that they have exceeded expectations and revitalised the Association.
“We have dutifully discharged it. We have executed assignment with, I can confidently say that above expectations,” Mr. Dwumfour stated.
He further highlighted efforts to transform the GJA into a vibrant, proactive, and appealing association, regaining the respect and relevance the Association had lost in previous years.

“I hope and I believe that the late AK fraternity haven’t assessed us for the past three years and observe the work we have done especially the first administration the only administration that has actually made the fight for press freedom its core mandate, ensuring a free media environment ensuring that the independent and the freedom of the media is not gagged. Giving the association a facelift transforming the association making it more vibrant proactive making the association appealing and very attractive. And the gaining or regaining our lost respect our lost glory.”
Mr. Dwumfour’s remarks come ahead of the Association’s upcoming national and regional elections, scheduled for Sunday, June 30, 2025.
A total of 62 aspirants have been cleared by the GJA Elections Committee to contest various positions across both national and regional levels.
Thirteen candidates are vying for six key national executive positions, including several incumbents seeking re-election and new contenders.
List of National Aspirants:
- President: Albert Kwabena Dwumfour (Incumbent) and Charles Yaw Mawusi
- Vice President: Mary Tawiah Mensah and Rebecca Ekpe (Incumbent, also serving as Public Affairs Officer)
- General Secretary: Dominic Hlordzi (Incumbent, formerly Organising Secretary) and Akwasi Agyeman
- Organising Secretary: Maxwell Kudekor and Suleiman Mustapha
- Treasurer: Bertha Badu-Agyei (GNA) and Theodora Amedetor (GBC)
- Public Affairs Officer: Ceasar Abagali (GNA) and Zadok Kwame Gyesi
The elections are expected to be keenly contested as members of the Association prepare to elect leaders to steer the affairs of the GJA for the next term.
