The Western Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially launched the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Dialogue and Exhibition, a bold initiative aimed at transforming how companies invest in local communities.
Unveiled at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) in Sekondi, the initiative is being rolled out under the auspices of the WRCC, and seeks to move corporate social responsibility beyond symbolic gestures toward more strategic, community-aligned investments.
Speaking at the launch, Regional GJA Chairman, Desmond Cudjoe, noted that while the region continues to face critical challenges in education, health, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability, there are already examples of CSI driving real change. He stressed, however, that such efforts are often fragmented and lack long-term coordination.

“This platform is our collective call to action—to make CSI not just an act of giving, but a convenant with our communities,” Mr. Cudjoe said. “We, as media, are ready to tell these stories with integrity, measure their impact, and amplify what works.”
The CSI Dialogue and Exhibition is designed to promote transparency, encourage partnerships, and recognize excellence through initiatives like the upcoming CSI Impact Awards and an annual CSI Impact Report to be co-published with the WRCC.
In his keynote address, Western Regional Minister Hon. Joseph Nelson commended the GJA for leading the initiative and highlighted the vital role the media plays in development advocacy. He emphasized the need for corporations operating in the region—especially those in extractives, telecoms, finance, and agribusiness—to re-examine their CSI frameworks.

“Corporate investment must be tied to regional priorities—rural roads, technical education, health outreach, and environmental protection,” the Minister said. “This is about sustainable prosperity, not seasonal charity.”
The guest speaker for the ocassion, Awulae Angama Tu-Agyan II, Paramount Chief of the Gwira Traditional Area, called for deeper consultation and accountability, citing gaps in infrastructure and education in areas like Gwira, Nzema East, and Wassa Amenfi.

“Too many CSI efforts are one-off and disconnected from our real needs,” he stated. “We welcome this GJA-WRCC partnership to drive consistency and strategic planning.”
The maiden CSI Dialogue and Exhibition event is scheduled for November 27–28, 2025. Ahead of that, the GJA will open a CSI nomination portal in September and train journalists in development storytelling to better track and showcase corporate impact.

The launch was graced by the presence of CSI officers from various institutions including , Gold Fields Ghana Limited , Ghana Rubber Estate Limited-GREL, Tullow Oil, Ahantaman Rural Bank, Hen Mpoano , Fiaseman Rural Bank, Amalitech Electronics , AMI garment producers and cleaning solutions and more.
