The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has declared a final warning to advertising agencies, corporate bodies, and individuals with unauthorised outdoor advertising signs and billboards located in road medians, urging them to remove them immediately or face enforcement action.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Authority said the next phase of its nationwide removal exercise will begin in August, targeting major corridors across the Greater Accra Region. The decision follows what the NRSA describes as the serious road safety risks posed by such structures, including visual and cognitive distractions to drivers and obstruction of visibility for both motorists and pedestrians.
“Following the successful enforcement exercise in the Ayawaso West Municipality, the Authority will extend the exercise in August to the following major road corridors in the Greater Accra Region,” the statement said.
The affected stretches include:
- N1 Highway: From Achimota Overhead to Dzorwulu Fiesta Royale Traffic Light
- Kwame Nkrumah Circle: Through Odorkor to the Weija intersection
- Spintex Road: From Action Chapel intersection to Palace Mall
- Kawukudi to Achimota
“All advertising companies, their clients, and owners of signs situated in the medians of the stretches mentioned earlier are hereby directed to voluntarily remove them with immediate effect,” the NRSA warned.
It further cautioned that non-compliance will lead to the forceful removal of the signs, with owners bearing the full cost of the operation.
“This nationwide exercise is a critical part of our commitment to engineering safer roads for all users. We count on your full cooperation,” the NRSA concluded.
