Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has urged Ghanaians to prioritise peace and propose actionable solutions to the ongoing Bawku conflict, calling for greater engagement with key government institutions.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on the evening of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Nana Yaa mentioned that individuals with alternative strategies should approach the appropriate authorities.
“If there is anyone who thinks they have a better solution, it is easy,” she said. “You can go to the Ministry of Interior. Hon. Muntaka is an open person. You can go to Defence, he is another open person, and say for the sake of Ghana, this is my strategy. They will take it.”
Her comments come in the wake of recent violence in Bawku and nearby areas, which led to the Ghana Armed Forces transitioning from peacekeeping to full-scale peace enforcement. The conflict has claimed several lives, including students and traditional leaders, raising national alarm.
Nana Yaa also criticised those who undermine current peace efforts without proposing viable alternatives. “If you say the strategies are failing without offering any options, then I have a problem,” she stated.
Emphasizing on sentiments expressed by President John Mahama, she called for restraint and unity. “The president says there’s no need to kill ourselves because we are brothers and sisters,” she noted. “So fundamentally, whatever the problem is, let’s resolve it. Conflicts come and go. You’d see that in some time, it will be resolved.”
