The Sissala Council of Chiefs has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including top government officials and members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement signed by Kuoro Abu Diaka Sukabe Ninia V, Paramount Chief of Zini and Interim PRO/Secretary for the Council, the chiefs and people of the Sissala Area described the incident as a devastating national loss.
“Their patriotism, dedication to duty and sacrifice resulting in their death on the line of duty should and will continue to inspire generations,” the statement read.
The council conveyed its condolences to the Presidency, the people of Ghana, and the bereaved families, calling the deceased “eight irreplaceable sons of Ghana” whose legacy would be recognised both by the nation and before the Almighty.
The chiefs called on the entire nation to rally behind the government and affected families, offering them “the needed support and prayers deserving of the situation.”
“We pray the Good Lord to comfort the bereaved families and grant the souls of our sons eternal peace and rest. May their souls rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
The helicopter crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region’s Adansi Akrofuom District, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Deputy NADMO Director-General Samuel Aboagye, and three Air Force personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

As part of the national response, President John Mahama declared three days of national mourning from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9. A State Funeral is scheduled for Friday, August 15 at Black Star Square.
