Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has expressed deep sympathy following the tragic incident at its concession near Mpatuam in the Amansie South District on September 9, 2025.
Tensions escalated after a confrontation between residents and Asanko Mine security forces resulted in the death of Assembly Member Samuel Danquah and injuries to two others.
The unrest followed allegations that mine security had killed a miner on Monday, September 8, prompting residents to block major roads in protest.
In a statement, the company explained that the incident involved military personnel deployed as part of a state-mandated security intervention coordinated through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
“The Company shares in the community’s grief over the tragic loss of life and extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time,” the statement read.
Asanko Gold noted that tensions within the community had escalated into civil unrest, attacks on military camps, and incursions into operational areas, resulting in a fatality and damage to contractor equipment.
The company emphasized its commitment to working closely with local authorities, government officials, and community leaders to address the situation and maintain constructive dialogue as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, has called for immediate justice and accountability following the fatal clash at Asanko Mines.
